Cooper will lay off 150 in Texarkana

May 23, 2007

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. plans to lay off 150 workers at its Texarkana, Ark., plant this weekend as part of Cooper's efforts to covert the facility to a "flex plant" format.

"We are making structural changes" and are reducing production at the factory, a Cooper official recently told moderntiredealer.com.

The plant currently employs 1,700 people. It has the capacity to produce more than 27,800 passenger and 9,300 light truck tires per day, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.

No additional lay-offs are currently being planned, says the spokesperson.
