Bob Sumerel strengthens presence in PA

Bob Sumerel Tire Co. Inc., one of the country's largest independent tire dealerships, is increasing its footprint in western Pennsylvania.

The Erlanger, Ky.-based company is moving its Houston, Pa., commercial tire facility into a new, larger building that should be fully operational by mid-August. (Houston is a Pittsburgh suburb.)

"We are making this move to accommodate the stronger-than-expected demand from customers and potential customers who want the products and services we provide in that area," says company CEO Bob Sumerel.

The company plans to add a Bandag retread plant to the Houston location by the end of the year. Initially, the plant will produce 154 retreads per day. The outlet also will contain a wheel reconditioning service and will deploy a fleet of service trucks.

Bob Sumerel Tire is the 22nd largest independent tire store chain in the United States, according to Modern Tire Dealer (MTD) research, with 45 total outlets. For more information about the 100 top tire store chains in the U.S., see the July 2008 issue of MTD.
