Trucking firm credits Michelin X Ones for EPA honor

March 8, 2007

Recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honoree Contract Freighters Inc. (CFI) credits Michelin's X One wide-base truck tire with helping it cut down on fuel consumption.

The trucking firm recently won the EPA's SmartWay Excellence Award.

It began using X Ones in 2004, says CFI Vice President of Maintenance Bruce Stockton.

"The Michelin X One has allowed CFI to improve our fleet fuel mileage by a solid two-tenths of a mile per gallon. At $2.50 per gallon, that will save our company $4.25 million annually. That’s nearly $1,850 per year per truck."

The EPA selects SmartWay winners based on technological and strategic initiatives implemented, actual fuel savings and overall impact of the organization on the environment, among other criteria.
