Feb. 2, 2007

Bridgestone/Firestone has inaugerated its second plant in Brazil. The factory will make passenger and light truck tires.

It will operate as part of Bridgestone Firestone do Brasil Industria e Comercio Ltda.

"Over the last few weeks, the facility began phasing in manufacturing operations," say company officials.

"Production will be expanded gradually until it reaches a daily production of 8,000 tires. This volume is expected to be reached during the second half of the year."

"The construction of this plant... is proof of Bridgestone Americas' commitment to Brazil," says Mark Emkes, chairman and CEO of Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc.

By the end of 2007, Bridgestone/Firestone will have completed a seven-year plan of investment in Brazil totaling $460 million.
