Tire industry hall of famer Joe Russo dies

Joseph Russo, former chairman and president of Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. and former president of Almira Tire and Supply Co., died Dec. 30, 2006, after a short illness. He was 79.

Russo served as president of Hercules from 1971 to 1987, and as chairman of the board from 1987 to 1989. He also was a past president of the former National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, now the Tire Industry Association (TIA). He was elected to the Tire Industry Hall of Fame in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two daughters; a son; grandchildren; and other relatives.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Ripepi & Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at St. Adelbert Church in Berea, Ohio. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
