When Consumer Reports (CR) ranks tires every year, it also marks those it recommends to consumers. In its November issue, CR rated ultra-high performance tires, plus performance winter tires.
Three received CR's stamp of approval in the performance winter category: the Nokian WR G3, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 and the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2.
However, three of the other eight tires in that category deserved some credit for coming so close to the top. The Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II's marks were particularly intriguing.
