Griffin Brothers purchases Dixon Tire

June 25, 2008

Griffin Brothers Tires, Wheels and Auto Repair has purchased Dixon Tire. The addition gives Griffin Brothers seven retail outlets.

"I could not have picked a better company than Griffin Brothers to take over our business," says former owner Doug Dixon. "Their values and integrity match our own. They are a family owned business who values customer service as much as we do.”

In 1971, Gordon Dixon purchased Tillman Firestone and began operating as Dixon Tire. Gordon Dixon ran Dixon tire until his death in 1990; at that time, his son, Doug, took over the reins.

Dixon Tire employs a staff of five associates who Griffin Brothers says will remain with the company. They are (with their years of service in parentheses): Bob Ross (35), Gene McSwain (18), John Craig (2-1/2), Ryan Peeler (1) and Jack Lester (1).

Griffin Brothers, which is an authorized Michelin and Goodyear dealership, will offer additional services that are not currently offered at the Shelby, N.C., location. New services include the following:

* nitrogen fill for tires;

* an overnight drop-off service;

* a free shuttle service;

* wireless Internet for waiting customers; and

* a 12-month/12,000-mile national warranty on all parts and service.

Cornelius, N.C.-based Griffin Brothers Tires, Wheels and Auto Repair is a family-owned, full-service tire and automotive dealership that has been serving the Charlotte, N.C., area since 1961.
