Hankook's Chris Forsberg finishes third in Texas

Sept. 16, 2013

Hankook driver Chris Forsberg brought home a third place podium finish this past weekend at Formula Drift Round 6: Showdown.  The race, held at Texas Motor Speedway, is the first time since 2005 that the Formula Drift series has competed in the Lone Star state.  Forsberg’s podium finish is his third in a row and fourth podium finish overall for the 2013 Formula Drift season.

Forsberg’s weekend started off well seeing him qualify for Saturday’s racing in third place in the Hankook Tire Nissan 370Z, right behind fellow Hankook Tire driver Fredric Aasbo who qualified second in the Hankook Tire Scion tC.  Temperatures in the 90’s and rain during Friday’s second qualifying session kept drivers focused and determined to land a good spot for Saturday’s racing action.

With spectator stands full and a fast, technical track layout Forsberg and the Hankook Tire Nissan 370Z  blasted through the Top 32 and Top 16, beating Jeremy Lowe and Justin Pawlak.  After edging out Dai Yoshihara in Top 8 Forsberg advanced to battle Patrick Mordaunt on a consolation round run. Forsberg’s driving was too much for Mordaunt, eliminating him from further competition and securing Forsberg and his Hankook Nissan 370Z a third place podium finish.

“We are absolutely thrilled to land on the podium for the third event in a row!” said Hankook driver Chris Forsberg. “The Hankook Ventus R-S3 tire has given us the consistency and grip that we need as we fight to bring Hankook their first Formula Drift championship.”

Forsberg’s podium finish puts him in second place in the 2013 Pro Championship points standings and fellow Hankook Tire driver Fredric Aasbo in third, giving both a chance to capture the Pro Championship at season’s end.  Additionally, Hankook Tire is currently in first place in the 2013 Formula Drift Tire Cup with only one race in the season left.

“It’s exciting to have a driver like Chris on the podium, competing on Hankook’s Ventus R-S3 at what is definitely a fast, technical track,” said Paul Jho, Hankook Motorsports Manager.  “At the same time it’s great to see how well all of our drivers are doing this year, allowing Hankook to lead the points race for the 2013 Formula Drift Tire Cup!”

All of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers race on Hankook’s Ventus RS-3 Extreme Performance tire. The Ventus R-S3 is designed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan enthusiasts looking for race tire-like traction on the street or for use in autocross, drifting or track events.
