Bridgestone doesn't waste time at Waste Expo

May 20, 2013

Bridgestone Commercial Solutions, a business unit of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC, is trying to make a big impression at the Waste Expo in New Orleans.

Two new Bridgestone tires for heavy-duty urban use on on display at the Bridgestone booth: the M860A High-Scrub All-Position radial and the Greatec M845 wide-base radial. Both "leverage new technologies to meet high demands of urban environments," according to the company.

"Stop-and-go driving, oil and chemical residue, pot holes, metal plates, cracked paving, weather -- all these road conditions and more pose unique challenges to urban-use tires and are compounded by heavy duty job demands, such as urban waste collection,” says Bert Jones, manager of TBR, retread and OTR product marketing. “The new design innovations in these tires help prolong tire life, retreadability and keep the tire performing to highest levels.”

* The M860A reflects improvements made to the popular Bridgestone M860. It features a new compound that improves wear performance leading to longer life. It is also engineered with a wider belt package that enhances casing durability, making it more retreadable, thereby extending casing asset life.

A special compound is designed to improve wear performance and life span, while a wider belt package enhances casing durability and increases retreadability. Key innovative elements also include: aggressive blocks to bite into soft surfaces for better traction; stone rejector platforms; angled grooves to promote wet traction; a solid shoulder design to evenly distribute weight and torque to fight irregular wear and block squirm for even wear.

* The Greatec M845 is available in a new size for Bridgestone: 455/55R22.5. “This new tire size meets the ever increasing need of customers who want to maximize operational efficiencies,” says Jones. “The wide-base design allows for heavier loads, requiring fewer trips and ultimately putting more money toward their bottom line.”

Next-generation WavedBelt technology reduces irregular shoulder wear. Key innovative elements include: stone rejector platforms to prevent trapped stones, which can damage belts; an optimized groove shape to increase durability and enhance retreadability; an aggressive block pattern that promotes wet traction; and a continuous shoulder design for reduced rolling resistance.

The M860A will be available in June and the Greatec M845 will be available in July. To learn more about Bridgestone truck tires, visit www.bridgestonetrucktires.com.
