Over 250 people tried to “Spot the Retreads” in a contest hosted by the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) during the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Ky., March 21-23.
TRIB reports that less than 10% of participants were able to correctly identify all of the retreaded tires. “Having them go back and look at the retreaded tires they missed really opened up opportunities to have a broader discussion about the quality of retreaded tires and purchase options for these owner-operators. Every year, we've had more and more positive discussions about their experiences with retreaded tires. The other topics that were top of mind for this year's attendees were wide-base tires, SmartWay and the continued high cost of new tires,” said TRIB Managing Director David Stevens.
After the show, TRIB drew seven winners who will receive a set of eight retreaded tires on their casings with the help the following member companies: AcuTread Alliance Group, Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions, Continental Tire the Americas, Goodyear Retreads, Marangoni Tread North America, Michelin Retread Technologies, and Oliver Rubber Co.
“Our booth, the contest, and media coverage of the event were great ways to reach a lot of end users and continue to spread the word about the economic and environmental benefits of retreaded tires,” says Stevens.
