Fuel-efficient tires: trend or trendy?

March 20, 2013

Fuel-efficient tires, or tires with low rolling resistance, are not trendy. They are a full-blown trend that many think will continue to grow as a percentage of replacement tires sold.

Vehicle manufacturers already have jumped on the bandwagon, as evidenced by the growing number of fuel-efficient OE tires. And they are promoting that fact, too.

In Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich's latest blog, he talks about the new commercial for the Chevy Equinox. Is the commercial it groundbreaking? No, but there was no mention of any other benefits. That sure shows what General Motors Corp. thinks is important to car buyers.

Is it important to tire buyers as well? Is price a factor?

Read the blog, "Beware: Your competition is emphasizing fuel-efficient tires," to find out more about the tires on the Equinox and fuel-efficient tires in general. And if that is not enough, The Tire Rack makes a guest appearance!

Do you sell a lot tires with low rolling resistance? Do your customers ask for them? Are they hard to sell? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment.
