Michelin: 'Plenty of growth potential at Oliver'

June 2, 2008

"Most of (our) Oliver licensees have the capacity to grow," Marc Laferriere, vice president of marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires, recently told moderntiredealer.com.

Michelin North America Inc. acquired Oliver Rubber Co. from Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. this past October.

At the time, Michelin said the acquisition "will complement the manufacturing capability and service network of Oliver with that of the Michelin Retread Technologies network."

"If someone wanted to go with a retread process that is flexible and not have to invest millions of dollars in terms of initial production, the combination of Oliver and Michelin can be very attractive," noted Laferriere.

"We have a lot of potential in aligning some of our offerings and making sure we're totally seamless from a marketing perspective."

Michelin currently has 21% of the United States retreaded truck tire market, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.
