Goodyear awards Houska Automotive $10,000

Jan. 28, 2013

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. honored Houska Automotive of Fort Collins, Colo., with its "Put More Good On The Road" award during the 2013 Goodyear Dealer Conference at the Gaylord National in Washington, D.C.

In receiving the recognition, owner Dennis Houska collected a crystal plaque and a check for $10,000 to be presented to the charity of his choice. He chose the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, one of the groups that battled fierce wildfires known as the High Park Fire in June 2012.

“Goodyear is respected for its giving spirit, evidenced by numerous support programs that include literacy, environmental, safety, youth and overall social awareness activities," said Todd Pickens, Goodyear’s senior director of consumer sales. "We also know that many of our Goodyear retailers do the same in their local communities.

"In this spirit, we created the Put More Good On The Road program, and we are thrilled to provide this award to a deserving tire dealership that works so hard to give back to the community where it does business.”

Houska Automotive is active in the community where the single-outlet business operates. This includes support of groups in addition to the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, such as Poudre Valley Hospital Cancer Center, Colorado Bone Marrow Registry, Respite Care, Project Self-Sufficiency and more.

An independent judging group reviewed the nominations for the Put More Good On The Road award, and especially liked Houska Automotive’s celebration of its 60th anniversary in business with a related “60 Acts of Kindness” campaign. Under this program, the tire and automotive service dealership targeted the local community with numerous initiatives that resulted in benefits for those in need.

A major event for the company is the annual Houska Houska 5K Fun Run/Walk, which attracted more than 1,000 participants and raised more than $32,000 for charity last year.

The Goodyear Put More Good On The Road project includes a contest for Goodyear’s North American tire dealers of all sizes and types. It seeks to spotlight those who best represent their profession through strong examples of giving back to their communities and, effectively, by “putting more good on the road.”
