Goodyear makes 3 commercial breakthroughs

Jan. 28, 2013

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. gave its commercial dealers news they could use at the 2013 Goodyear Dealer Conference. The three-day event was held recently in Washington, D.C.

There were changes to its FleetHQ Commercial Selling App; a renewed emphasis on the Kelly truck tire brand; and two new sizes to the G661 HSA.

1. User-friendly app. The FleetHQ Commercial Selling App (CSA) – now known as the Goodyear-FleetHQ CSA -- is more user-friendly than the “1.0” version.

The app's dashboard is more visual, according to John Fitzpatrick, IT resources manager. “It’s more intuitive. It’s easy to navigate and filter through the different brands and uses of tires.”

The revamped app provides the dealer with detailed information about every Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly new truck tire and retread product that Goodyear offers, searchable by tire size, application, wheel position and load range.

Every business solution offered through Goodyear-FleetHQ can be found with the app, including Tire Trac, Trailer Readiness and 24/7 emergency roadside service. It also gives users the ability to not only email information directly to customers, but also send sell-sheets, brochures, bulletins and other items to customers’ printers for on-the-spot hard copies.

The fleet proposal tool is available for iPads, iPhones, Android phones, Android tablets, and other smart phones.

2. Two new G661 HSA sizes. The Goodyear G661 HSA has added two 19.5-inch, LR G sizes to its lineup: 225/70R19.5 and 245/70R19.5. The latter will be available in February; the new sizes expand the line to 15 sizes in all.

“We want to cover the pickup and delivery market because it continues to grow,” says Norberto Flores, brand manager, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems.

“There has always been a strong need in the pick-up and delivery segment for tires that deliver a high degree of scrub resistance. With the growth of on-line shopping and home delivery, pick-up and delivery fleets also want a tire with long tread life.”

The Goodyear G661 HSA features a multi-compound, layered tread construction designed to extend tread life. It also has up to an 18/32-inch tread depth.

3. Kelly rides again. Last year, Goodyear didn’t market a Kelly brand longhaul or regional truck tire line. This year, there are five lines.

Three familiar Armorsteel lines are in production: KDA, KLS and KTSA. Two others, the KRH and KDM I, will be available in April.

The KRH has a 20-32-inch tread depth  The tread pattern enhances traction on wet and dry roads, while the belt package offers even wear with less scrub.

The KDM I features an aggressive tread pattern to go along with a deep tread depth. It has an “isolated element” tread pattern that helps promote traction. The unique blading pattern enhances the performance and appearance as the tire begins to wear.
