Michelin marks Spartanburg plant anniversary

May 19, 2008

Michelin North America Inc.'s Spartanburg, S.C., plant is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The factory manufactures tires for commercial trucks and United States military vehicles.

"Over the past three decades, the facility and its employees have played an integral part in Michelin's success in commercial tire technology," says Tom Whalen, who manages the Spartanburg plant.

The factory is known as "the birthplace of the Michelin X One (wide-base truck) tire," according to Michelin officials. "Due to continuing demand for Michelin's X One tire line, the plant has expanded to add more X One production lines."

In 2007, the plant ramped up production for military tires.
