Look for higher tire prices, shortages, Ludwig says

Nov. 5, 2009

"Can you believe it? I’m starting to hear from dealers about shortages of some sizes of tires," says Saul Ludwig in the November installment of the "Ludwig Report" in Modern Tire Dealer magazine.

"For the past year, dealers have slashed inventories and so have manufacturers. Now that a tariff has been imposed on Chinese imports, Chinese sourcing will be cut. Manufacturers are ramping up production.

"With raw material costs increasing and supply tight, look for higher tire prices soon," Ludwig says.

Ludwig is a managing director with KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc. based in Cleveland, Ohio. Look for the full "Ludwig Report" in the November issue of Modern Tire Dealer magazine.
