Hoosier discontinues street tire program

Sept. 24, 2002

Hoosier Racing Tire has decided to end its Hoosier brand street tire program after three years.

The Lakeville, Ind.-based company cites "dwindling margins and a general line contraction in the industry" as reasons for discontinuing the program.

"We were not achieving the market penetration we needed to maintain the program," Hoosier officials said in a prepared statement issued this afternoon.

"Our distributors and corporate office staff did everything possible to keep the brand alive, but we had to move on."

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. manufactured Hoosier's street tire line. It will assume all control of remaining inventory and will continue to honor the "limited warranty" on existing lines.

Hoosier rolled out its street program in 1999. It "was positioned to bring Hoosier's 40 years-plus of racing heritage to the performance street tire aftermarket."
