Michelin rolls out light truck/SUV tire

Michelin North America Inc. has introduced the Michelin LTX M/S 2 light truck/SUV tire. Michelin plans to introduce 38 sizes for the tire this year and in 2010, ranging from 15 inches to 20 inches in diameter.

The LTX M/S 2 contains several features, including Michelin's "3D Active Sipes," which allow tread blocks to lock together in order to preserve rigidity. "Greater density (of the sipes) allow 8% more biting edges than the prior generation Michelin LTX M/S and offers better snow traction," say Michelin officials.

Other features include new silica tread compound for better wet performance; an extra steel belt; Michelin's Advanced MaxTouch Construction technology, which features a unique contact patch shape "that evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking and cornering;" and the company's Comfort Control Technology, which reduces road vibrations and noise.

The LTX M/S 2 carries a 70,000-mile limited warranty.
