Goodyear introduces waste haul truck tire

June 10, 2009

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has unveiled the G289 WHA, part of a new line of medium truck tires for waste hauling applications.

The G289 WHA is available in size 315/80R22.5 in Load Range L and has a capacity of 10,200 pounds. Its features, among others, include:

* a 24/32-inch tread depth to extend tread life.

* special waste haul compounding for scrub resistance and durability.

* a sealant inside the tire that quickly seals tread punctures up to 1/4-inch in diameter in the repairable part of the tread.

* all-season traction on wet, snowy or dry roads in stop/start applications thanks to four wide circumferential grooves in the tread area.

The tire also can be ordered with Goodyear's DuraSeal Technology.

The G289 WHA joins Goodyear's G287 MSA and G288 MSA "to offer a full suite of tires for front and rear loaders, plus transfer dump operations," say Goodyear officials.

While it is mainly intended for urban settings, it's versatile enough to be used on-highway, says Donn Kramer, Goodyear's director of commercial tire marketing. "While waste haulers spend the majority of their time in neighborhoods or at waste transfer sites, they do run freeway miles en route to landfills."

In addition, Goodyear offers a tread for the G289 WHA, the G289 Retread.
