Bayer wins an All-Toyo Tires NHRA Super Comp Final

April 21, 2009

Thomas Bayer has won his second NHRA “Wally” during the 2009 season, besting the large Super Comp field at the Jegs Pacific SPORTS nationals at his home track in Fontana, California this past weekend.  Bayer and teammate, Jack Freckmann, both met for a team showdown in the final with their Lucas Oil/Toyo Tires dragsters running on Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks.

Unseasonable heat challenged the racers for this event, while high winds during Sunday’s racing caused NHRA officials to shorten the event to 1/8-mile for safety purposes.

“Winning is these conditions is testament to the consistency of our products from Lucas, Toyo, K&N and Crower, even when it was hot, dry and windy,” said Bayer.  “With track temperatures exceeding 130 degrees, our 60-foot times didn’t vary much thanks to our Proxes Drag Slicks.”

Bayer’s Fontana win is his second national win and his third in Super Comp for this year.  He currently stands first overall in the 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series championship point standings in Super Comp, and is second overall in Super Gas with his 1962 Corvette.

“We congratulate both Thomas Bayer and Jack Freckmann for making it an all Toyo Tires final in Super Comp this past weekend,” said Stan Chen, manager of motorsports and events, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.  “Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks are an outstanding tire for Sportsman class racers, providing a great value while delivering wins.”

In addition to the Thomas Bayer Racing stable, other notable results with cars running Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks included Top Dragster action, where Russell Suyenaga qualified third out of 39 with a full quarter mile pass of 6.718 @ 204.51 MPH.  Peter Dodge qualified third in his B-Stock Camaro in Stock Eliminator, running 1.113 seconds under his 11.50 index.  The next closest B-Stock qualified 32nd, 0.338 seconds slower than Dodge.
