Suburban Tire opens 'green' store in Illinois

April 10, 2009

Glendale Heights, Ill.-based Suburban Tire Auto Care Centers has opened a "green" store in Hanover Park, Ill.

The 8,000-square-foot store was designed to be environmentally friendly. The store uses solar panels to generate electricity and a geothermal system to heat and cool it.

"A live 'green roof' is slated to be installed for insulation and green space purposes," say Suburban Tire officials.

"Also, recycled steel and masonry were used in construction, as well as cellulose insulation made from recycled newspapers."

The outlet has seven tire and auto service bays, plus three quick lube bays, that allow it to service more than 100 vehicles per day.
