ATD wants to sell AM-PAC retail stores

American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) wants to sell 37 retail stores it obtained via its purchase of AM-PAC Tire Dist. Inc. last year.

The stores "are not core" to ATD's business, say ATD officials.

ATD wants to divest of the stores in 2009 "and thus, has classified (them) as held for sale." The outlets are in the St. Louis, Mo., and southern California areas.

ATD purchased 100% of AM-PAC's stock from Itochu Corp. in December 2008 in a deal that was one and one-half years in the making.  The sale included 24 distribution centers, AM-PAC's Tire Pros franchise program and the aforementioned retail stores.
