Titan International Inc. began testing its 63-inch OTR tire on a newly constructed 24-foot wheel this week. Titan says the test wheel is the largest in the world.
Titan produced its first 63-inch tire two months ago. The tire stands 13.5 feet tall and weighs 12,500 pounds.
The company's test wheel can be loaded with up to 500,000 pounds and operated at a top speed of 45 miles per hour.
"Testing will confirm the casing of the tire and its heat characteristics," say company officials. "Ten days of testing is equivalent to one year of field use."
