Trelleborg to transfer industrial tire production out of U.S.

Nov. 28, 2006

Trelleborg Wheel Systems will transfer production of its industrial tires from Hartville, Ohio, to Sri Lanka in 2008. Production in Ohio is expected to continue until the first part of 2009.

"By doing this, we are creating the conditions for a strong global production structure," says Maurizio Vischi, business area president for Trelleborg.

"This enables us to remain competitive and grow the business organically. The measures will improve our profitability and position in the North American market, where we are currently also building an efficient sales and distribution organization."

The Hartville plant employs about 200 people, 115 of whom are involved in production.

Trelleborg has two plants in Sri Lanka that employ 900 people in total. The company plans to boost its manufacturing capacity at the facilities.
