SEMA Show Preview: Kumho's 32-inch tire will be window dressing for now

Oct. 27, 2006

The 305/25R32 ECSTA X3 that will be showcased in the Kumho booth at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show next week may never actually be put in production, according to Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc.

"We built the 32-inch tire as an engineering exercise to develop the knowledge that's necessary to create it," says Rick Brennan, Kumho brand director for Kumho Tire U.S.A. "At this time, we're still investigating if we'll actually produce the tire.

"The ingenuity of U.S. vehicle owners and tuners continues to create new avenues for tire and wheel fitments that were never even dreamed of in the past. Today, large diameter wheels are found on lifted domestic cars from the '70's and '80's -- also known as 'Donks.'

"The ingenuity of the U.S. tuner market never ceases to amaze us, and as a tiremaker, we cannot take the market beyond where it wants to go," he says. "But the human imagination is endless! We created this tire to spark thought about new frontiers and to see what ideas surface from the creative U.S. marketplace."

The SEMA Show is part of Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week, which will be held in Las Vegas Oct. 31-Nov. 3.
