TBC, ACCC and SURE light truck tires part of Cooper recall

TBC Corp., American Car Care Centers Inc. (ACCC) and SURE Tire Inc. are notifying customers that some 18,000 light truck tires made for them by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. are part of a greater voluntary recall by Cooper that is currently taking place.

Cooper is in the process of recalling 48,037 light truck tires as a safety precaution, according to Cooper officials.

"Our inspection and surveillance system detected tires which did not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139's high speed wheel tests. The tires, on the test wheel, developed a separation between two components in the sidewall on the whitewall side only."

Slightly more than 17,000 size LT265/75R16 tires that Cooper made for TBC under the Wild Country Radial STX Sport and Wild Trac Radial LTR names are part of the bigger recall, says a Cooper spokesperson. (The TBC-owned tires were manufactured between Dec. 2, 2007, and Feb. 2, 2008.)

Approximately 1,018 size LT265/75R16 tires bearing ACCC's American Prospector A/T name are part of the recall. They also were built between Dec. 2, 2007, and Feb. 2, 2008.

Meanwhile, 295 size LT265/75R16 tires bearing SURE Tire's Summit Trail Climber AT name are part of the recall, according to Cooper officials. (These tires were manuafactured between Dec. 9-15, 2007.)

Other tires and sizes under recall by Cooper include the Cooper Discoverer ATR (sizes LT235/85R16 and LT265/75R16); the Dean Wildcat Radial (size LT265/75R16); the Mastercraft Courser A/T 2 (sizes LT235/85R16 and LT265/75R16); and the Mentor All Terrain Radial SXT (size LT265/75R16). These tire were made at Cooper's Albany, Ga., factory during a 10-week period from December 2007 through February 2008.
