Goodyear says strike contingency plan has been implemented

Oct. 9, 2006

While under strike, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will meet production requirements "through a combination of production in non-affected plants, affected plants using salaried workers, imports and available inventory," a Goodyear spokesman has told moderntiredealer.com.

On Oct. 5, the United Steelworkers went on strike at eight Goodyear tire production factories throughout the United States, plus four Goodyear Engineered Products facilities in the U.S. and company locations in Canada.

"We remain willing to continue to bargain with the Steelworkers," says Jim Allen, Goodyear's chief negotiator.

Meanwhile, the Steelworkers remain in labor contract talks with Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC.

The union ratified a new labor contract with Michelin North America Inc. in early August.
