SEMA council addresses wheel and tire industries

June 28, 2006

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) board of directors has approved a new name for its SEMA Wheel Industry Council (WIC) -- Wheel & Tire Council (WTC).

WTC recognizes the fact that the wheel and tire industries work closely with one another, says the association, and it "more accurately reflects the council¹s current membership, which is comprised of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, installers, service providers and publications from both the wheel and tire segments."

The new name officially takes effect July 1, 2006.

"Although the name of the council has changed, the fact that the council has been serving the needs of both the wheel and the tire industries is not new," says Faith Barnese, SEMA vice president, membership and councils.

In recent years, the council has been instrumental in creating wheel installation guidelines, educating and helping the industry deal with tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) regulations, passage of wheel testing standards, creating the custom wheel and tire specialist certification program and more.
