March 26, 2008

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s plant in Albany, Ga., has been named "2008 Large Industry of the Year" by the Albany (Ga.) Chamber of Commerce and the Albany/Dougherty County Economic Development Commission.

"Nominees were scored based on their economic impact, including revenues, capital investment, and growth of new jobs," say Cooper officials.

Other criteria included corporate responsibility through initiatives such as company-sponsored community involvement and educational partnerships, plus commitment to workforce excellence through employee education programs, diversity awareness, and employee recognition.

Cooper's Albany plant, which employs 1,700 people, produces Cooper, Mastercraft and Mickey Thompson brand tires, as well as private label tires for Hercules Tire & Rubber Co., TBC Corp. and other firms.

The factory generates annual revenues of more than $500 million, according to Cooper officials.
