Long-time Connecticut tire dealer Jerry Massaro died April 1 at the age of 86. He ran Reliable Tire, a Hartford, Conn.-based dealership that his father founded in 1919.

"His family were pioneers in the tire industry in Connecticut," says Anne Evans of Tyres 2000 Ltd.

"He was a leader in our industry... the kind of person who made our industry what it is."

Massaro was a World War II veteran and past president of the New England Tire Dealers Association.

Preceded by his wife, Eleanor, and two sisters, he is survived by a sister, five children, five grandchildren and other relatives.
