Grants, incentives open door to $250 million investment in BFNT plant

March 9, 2006

Officials from the State of North Carolina and Wilson County, N.C., have approved training grants and economic development incentives for Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC's (BFNT) passenger and light truck tire plant in Wilson. The move was instrumental in BFNT's decision to invest $250 million in equipment at the plant over the next 10 years.

"With this investment, the Wilson plant will be able to manufacture the high technology tires that are demanded by today's customers, including Bridgestone run-flat tires that will be mounted on vehicles produced by manufacturers such as BMW.

"Both the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the county fully understand the global nature of today's business environment and are committed to working hard to ensure that North Carolina businesses remain competitive," BFNT officials continue.

BFNT's Wilson County factory can produce 38,000 passenger and 4,000 light truck tires per day at full capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2006 Facts Issue.
