Maxxis sponsors cycling event

Feb. 21, 2006

Maxxis International is a new sponsor of the largest professional cycling event in North America, the Amgen Tour of California.

Owned and operated by AEG, the eight-stage professional cycling race will take place Feb. 19-26, and will encompass 600 miles of riding from San Francisco to Redondo Beach, Calif. Sixteen international teams will compete in this world class race, including Health Net presented by Maxxis. The race will be broadcast nightly on ESPN2.

Maxxis is the official automotive and bicycle tire of the race and also is a sponsor of the eight Amgen Tour of California Lifestyle Festivals presented by Health Net. At each festival, fans can enjoy a health and fitness expo; receive cancer awareness education from Amgen and The Wellness Community's Breakaway from Cancer initiative; and learn about bicycle safety.

The company also will offer a stunt show performed by members of the DK BMX Stunt Team.

"We believe that the Amgen Tour of California will become one of the most respected and anticipated tours of the professional calendar," says Brad Klipping, bicycle marketing coordinator with Maxxis.
