A record 326.6 million passenger, light truck and truck tires were shipped in the United States in 2005, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2006 Facts Issue. That includes 205.8 million replacement passenger tires, the first time those shipments reached 200 million units.
The 2005 shipments were 2.3% higher than in 2004 because:
* replacement passenger tire shipments were up 3.2%.
* replacement and original equipment medium truck tire shipments were up 5.5% and 14%, respectively.
Conversely, replacement and OE light truck tire shipments were down in 2005 compared to 2004.
