Pirelli will supply tires to BMW (again!)

Oct. 17, 2012

Given Pirelli & Cie SpA’s well-established technical partnership with BMW AG, it is not surprising that a 21-inch P Zero run-flat will be original equipment on the new X5 and X6 (E70) SUVs.

The P Zero run-flat is homologated for the BMW X5 and X6 in these sizes:

1. 285/35R21 105Y XL (front).

2. 325/30R21 108Y XL (rear).

The 21-inch P Zero has been developed jointly by Pirelli and BMW "to cope with the high performance demands generated by the latest generation SUVs," according to Pirelli. It will be distinguished by a special star marking on the sidewall that indicates the tires have been tailor-made to respond to the specific needs of each manufacturer

(These markings will also be seen on Pirelli’s winter tires. With the Sottozero Serie II and Scorpion Ice & Snow, Pirelli now supplies more than 30 fitments distinguished by the new star marking.)

The tire's specialized asymmetric tread pattern is designed to ensure an even level of wear, adds the company.

Pirelli also supplies OE tires to BMW models such as the 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series GT, 5 Series, 6 Series Gran Coupé and 7 Series, as well as the current X1 and X3 SUV models. For information on Pirelli products in North America, visit www.pirelli.com.
