Inspiration from Discount Tire's Bruce Halle

Oct. 15, 2012

What do Thomas Edison, Bruce Halle and Sam Walton have in common? They appear to have been cut from the same cloth.

In a recent biography, "Six Tires, No Plan: The impossible journey of the most inspirational leader that (almost) nobody knows," Halle and the tire dealership he founded, Discount Tire Co. Inc., are profiled.

The book takes us from Halle's childhood to the culture that is Discount Tire, one of the largest independent tire dealerships in the world. The two are directly connected.

It is an inspirational story, filled with words of wisdom from a variety of sources, especially Halle and his employees.

Rob Walton, chairman of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and son of founder Sam Walton, wrote the forward, which not only sets the tone for the book, but also shows why Halle is a relatable business owner.

To find out a little about the book, and why Modern Tire DealerEditor Bob Ulrich was inspired to write about it, read his latest blog, "What you can learn from Discount Tire Co. Chairman Bruce Halle."

As for Thomas Edison, he knows what defines a genius in his or her field. Hint: It involves inspiration and perspiration.
