Sullivan Tire makes a hit against cancer

Aug. 28, 2012

Sullivan Tire Co. Inc. presented a $20,000 check to the 11th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon on Aug. 22, 2012. The donation was part of the “Every Hit Helps” summer promotion for the Jimmy Fund, a Massachusetts-based charity dedicated to fighting cancer in children and adults.

The summer promotion began on July 16 and ran until Aug. 10. During that time Sullivan Tire agreed to donate $500 to the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Telethon for every hit Dustin Pedroia made, and increased that amount to $1,000 for each home run hit by Pedroia.

The Boston Red Sox, Boston’s WEEI Sports Radio 850 AM, the New England Sports Network (NESN) and the Jimmy Fund teamed up for the telethon at Fenway Park, Boston, Mass.

In the end Pedroia had 26 hits, three of which were home runs. This led to a total of $14,500 but Sullivan Tire decided to round up so the final donation was $20,000.

“We are thrilled to have been able to donate to this incredible charity,” said Paul Sullivan, vice president of Marketing for Sullivan Tire. “Nothing pleases us more than to give back to the community through an organization that helps such a worthwhile cause.”
