Yokohama takes certification a step further

Aug. 27, 2012

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has obtained countrywide integrated certification under ISO 14001.

The certification, the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS), covers Yokohama's nine locations in Japan: the head office and eight domestic production sites (the Hiratsuka factory, and Mie, Mishima, Shinshiro, Onomichi, Ibaraki, Nagano and Hiratsuka-East plants). It took more than a decade to get all the locations certified individually.

Yokohama says it obtained integrated ISO 14001 certification "in order to realize uniform-quality, high-level EMS under the company-wide environmental policy for the further improvement of environmental management."

In addition to Yokohama Rubber itself, five production sites of domestic group companies and 13 overseas group companies have acquired ISO 14001 certification. That includes the Yokohama Tire Corp. plant in Salem, Va.

Based on its medium-term management "Grand Design 100" plan, Yokohama Rubber promotes environmental management with ISO 14001 at its heart.
