GITI Tire Corp. is donating $1 million for environmental conservation projects in Indonesia and southwest China.

GITI is making the donation via a partnership agreement with Conservation International.

The money "will protect (the) habitat of threatened species such as the Sumatran orangutan in Indonesia and pandas in southwest China, and replant forest areas," say GITI officials, who believe the efforst will "reduce levels of atmospheric carbon that cause climate change."

Part of the donation will support the replanting of a large portion of native forest area in southwest China, along with the conservation of wetlands in the region.
