At its annual meeting today, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) presented half of its 14 annual safety awards to Michelin North America Inc. manufacturing plants.
Two Michelin production facilities were recognized for excellence in worker health and safety, and five were acknowledged for significant improvements in these categories.
RMA’s Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP), created in 1981, recognizes member companies that achieve significant enhancements in worker health and safety with awards. The SHIP awards encourage and reward a company’s demonstrated commitment to worker health and safety.
Michelin plants in Spartanburg, S.C. and Starr, S.C. received Excellence awards; facilities in Greenville, S.C., Sandy Springs, S.C., Dothan, Ala., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Covington, Ga. received Improvement awards.
“The SHIP awards are very significant for us because Michelin is focused on creating the safest and most healthy work environment possible at all its facilities,” said Pete Selleck, Michelin North America’s chairman and president. “It is the hard work and devotion to safety of all our manufacturing employees that made these results possible.”
“Today’s awards are clear evidence of this industry’s commitment to worker safety,” said Charles Cannon, RMA president and CEO.
