Clevite engine bearings win Daytona 500 with Matt Kenseth

March 2, 2012

As the manufacturer of Clevite engine bearings used on every NASCAR Champion’s engine since the inaugural season in 1948, MAHLE Clevite Inc. is pleased to congratulate Matt Kenseth, winner of the 54th running of Great American Race at Daytona International Speedway.

The exciting win over Dale Earnhardt Jr. and teammate Greg Biffle allowed Kenseth to capture his second Daytona 500 victory in the last four years. The Roush Yates Ford FR9 engine in Kenseth’s No. 17 Best Buy Ford Fusion was built by Roush Yates Engines with Clevite engine bearings, as was his winning car in the 150-mile qualifying event, the Gatorade Duel 2, on Thursday.

The first ever nighttime running of the Daytona 500 proved to be one of the most memorable. After being postponed for the first time in history, the Monday night race was faced with another 2-hour delay when a problem with Juan Pablo Montoya’s car sent him into a jet dryer, setting both vehicles ablaze.

“This year’s Daytona 500 was unbelievable,” said Ted Hughes, Manager - Marketing, MAHLE Clevite. “Watching the Daytona 500 under the lights was extraordinary, but the action-packed final laps made Monday’s race one to be remembered. We are incredibly proud that our Clevite engine bearings were not only in the engine of this year’s winning Roush Yates Ford FR9 engine, but also have been in the engine of every winner of The Great American Race since 1959.”

“It was a great weekend for Roush Yates Engines,” said Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “To win both the qualifying race on Thursday, and then the Daytona 500 on Monday is a spectacular way to start the 2012 season. MAHLE Clevite has once again provided us with unparalleled technical support and quality-designed Clevite engine bearings that deliver winning results year after year.”

Clevite engine bearings have a long-standing reputation with racing applications that has continued to build over the past decade. In addition to Clevite engine bearings, NASCAR teams also turn to MAHLE Clevite for MAHLE Original  piston rings and Victor Reinz  gaskets.
