Cooper and USW reach tentative agreement

Feb. 24, 2012

The United Steelworkers (USW) reports the union has reached a tentative agreement on a labor contract with Cooper Tire and Rubber Co.  on behalf of the 1,051 members of USW Local 207L who have been locked-out since Nov. 28, 2011, at the company’s Findlay, Ohio, tire plant.

The union will be scheduling an informational meeting on Saturday for members to discuss the tentative agreement with their negotiating committee before a ratification vote on Monday, Feb. 27.

The union says it will not publicly discuss the details of the agreement until the members of Local 207L have had a chance to review it.

Local union President Rod Nelson declined to disclose details or compare the tentative agreement with a deal approved last month by unionized workers at Cooper's Texarkana, Ark., tire factory, reports the Findlay newspaper The Courier,

A new four-year labor agreement covering United Steelworkers Local 556L members at the company's Clarksdale, Miss., plant also was recently by the union.
