K&M Tire grows, acquires Don’s Tire

Jan. 5, 2012

Wholesale tire distributor, K&M Tire Inc. has purchased the assets of Don’s Tire in Cross Plains, Wis., a long-established customer.

The deal closed Jan. 2, 2012, and includes Don’s Tire inventory and customer list. However, the retail store closed its doors effective Jan. 1.

Following the purchase, Leo Wherley, owner of Don’s Tire, joined the K&M Tire sales team. He will serve as a part-time outside sales representative in Wisconsin.

Don’s Tire opened its doors in 1988 and sold Bridgestone, Firestone, Dayton, Fuzion, Goodyear, Continental, and Carlisle tires to both retail and wholesale customers.

Founded in 1970, Delphos, Ohio-based K&M Tire acquired Triton Tire & Battery from Universal Cooperatives in 2010. The purchase helped K&M expand its current wholesale footprint to 12 warehouses in 10 states servicing customers in 15 states from Ohio to the Dakotas.

The Triton Tire purchase included the Mr. Tire affiliated dealer program, which K&M says has expanded aggressively under its leadership. K&M Tire plans to continue to grow by buying local and regional wholesalers in the Midwest.
