Pirelli: Official Tire for the Trans Am Championship

Nov. 7, 2016

Pirelli will not only be the official tire for next year's Trans Am Championship, but also its presenting sponsor.

"Trans Am is one of the biggest names in America, with close, affordable and popular racing that showcases thrilling competition," says Pirelli’s Motorsport director Paul Hembery. "With our involvement in the Pirelli World Challenge, as well as different one-make series in the USA and the recently-opened P Zero World store in Los Angeles, Pirelli’s links with American auto racing have never been stronger."

"This new agreement with Trans Am is part of a wider plan to continue growing the commercial motorsports business in the North American market," says Pirelli Tire LLC’s North American Vice President of Motorsports, Communications and Prestige, Rafael Navarro. "Our direction was clear from the beginning and we have developed and produced a product that introduces radial technology to all categories, improving performance while maintaining the characteristics fans have come to appreciate from Trans Am racing."

As a result of the three-year deal, partnership, the race series will be retitled the "Trans Am Championship, presented by Pirelli," with Pirelli supplying purpose-built P Zero racing tires for the headlining TA and TA2 categories. The tires are "specifically created to respond to the unique needs and dynamics of Trans Am race cars."

The same methodology lies at the heart of Pirelli’s "perfect fit" strategy for the road, with the Italian firm partnering with prestigious vehicle manufacturers to create tires that are specially designed to enhance the overall performance of the vehicles to which they are fitted.

A Cinturato rain tire also has been developed for the Trans Am Championship, so that racing can continue even when it's raining.

This new relationship is at the very heart of Pirelli’s DNA, with the Italian tire firm making a greater commitment to auto racing than any other competitor. Including championships on both two and four wheels, Pirelli equips nearly 300 different series around the world, both as sole supplier and in open competition.
