Hankook to Share Tire Monitoring Tech with Hyundai

March 18, 2021

Hankook has signed an agreement with Hyundai Motor Group and Kia that will see the tire manufacturer share "tire-related data and tire condition-checking technologies."

Meanwhile, Hyundai and Kia will share their "open vehicle data platform and data from connected cars" with Hankook.

"In addition, they will further analyze and process shared and collected data to develop a tire management service which gives notifications, such as when to replace a tire, according to the vehicle model and driver. They are also planning to study how tire wear and condition changes affect a vehicle’s performance, fuel efficiency and safety."

The goal, say Hankook officials, is to "provide a solution for overall vehicle operation and management that gives customized notifications and provides information for safe driving," while developing "a new business model.

"Hankook plans to provide high-quality services to customers based on the various data gained through the strategic cooperation with Hyundai Motor and Kia and continue making efforts to develop innovative technologies through mutual cooperation and relentless R&D."
