TBC Celebrates 65th Anniversary

March 23, 2021

TBC Corp. is celebrating its 65th year in business. “This is an incredible milestone for our company," says TBC President and CEO Erik Olsen. "We’ve achieved great success through the hard work, innovative spirit, passion and dedication of our 9,000-plus team members."

The company's history dates back to 1956, when a group of tire retailers joined together to form a purchasing group called Cordovan Associates.

In 1972, Cordovan Associates became Tire & Battery Corporation. Nine years later, the company went public under the name TBC.

In 2005, TBC was acquired by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA.)

"Thirteen years later, in 2018, Michelin North America and SCOA entered into a 50-50 joint venture agreement to own TBC," according to TBC officials.

Today, TBC has nearly 3,200 franchised and company-owned tire and automotive centers. The company offers two franchise programs, Big O and Midas; offers 22 proprietary tire brands; and operates more than 150 distribution centers.

Last year, TBC built a new office building in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

“Our past is very much a part of our present and our future," says Olsen. "As we look towards the next 65 years, we will continue to work diligently to exceed the expectations of our customers, our franchisees, our shareholders, our supplier partners and our associates.”
