Nate Sherman founded the brand on April 20, 1956, by offering speedy service and a muffler that came with a warranty "for as long as you own your car." The first store opened in Macon, Ga., and within a year the founding franchisees opened 100 locations, TBC says.
The muffler shop has adapted to offer complete auto service, with brakes, tires, oil changes and ride control services. There are now more than 2,000 locations around the world servicing both consumer vehicles as well as fleet vehicles.
Midas joined TBC in 2012.
