McCarthy Tire Service Co. Inc. is expanding its footprint in the Southeast with the acquisition of Piedmont Truck Tires Inc., a commercial tire dealership with 10 service locations and two retread plants in the Carolinas and Tennessee.
Dan Rice, the president of Piedmont Truck Tire, will continue to oversee operations. The business will continue to operate under the Piedmont name.

Rice says, “My personal goal has always been to make sure that the employees and customers of Piedmont Truck Tires would be taken care of when Mitch Glover and I eventually decided to exit the tire business. McCarthy Tire has given us a way to exit the business knowing that our employees and customers will be taken care of properly. I want to thank all of our employees, customers, and vendors for their loyalty, and I hope they will continue into the future with us and with McCarthy Tire.”
Piedmont Truck Tires has service locations in three states. In North Carolina it operates in Asheville, Burlington, Conover, Concord-Charlotte, Graham, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Warsaw. It also has service locations in Columbia, S.C. and Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Incorporated in 1978, Piedmont Truck Tires offers both retail and commercial tires and services. The commercial business includes truck, industrial, off-the-road, agricultural and forestry tires, as well as heavy truck mechanical and repair.
The addition of Piedmont Truck Tires will give McCarthy Tire Service, the nation's fifth-largest commercial dealer, 70-plus service locations along the East Coast. In late March the company expects to close another deal to purchase LS Truck Tire Repair Inc., a company with five service locations in Philadelphia and New Jersey.
