Tire Discounters Continues to Expand

May 3, 2022

Cincinnati, Ohio-based Tire Discounters Inc. has acquired Virginia-based Thompson Tire. The deal, which includes seven retail stores and a commercial tire center, gives Tire Discounters 12 outlets in Virginia.

The transaction follows Tire Discounters' recent acquisition of Bobby's Tire and Auto Care and Tire Outfitters, also in Virginia.

Tire Discounters - which also has acquired K&G Tire in Louisville, Ky., and Kedron Tire in Peachtree City, Ga. - now has more than 170 locations and is one of the largest independent tire dealerships in the United States, according to the MTD 100.

"Virginia is a terrific market where we have an incredible opportunity to grow," says Tire Discounters President and CEO Jamie Ward.

"Adding Thompson Tire is a great fit for us because they are family-run stores, which are the heart and soul of the tire business and the heart and soul of Tire Discounters."

"Tire Discounters is constantly looking for businesses to partner with that align with our family, our community and customer-centered values," notes Anna Wood, Tire Discounters' managing director.

Founded by Chip Wood, MTD's 2020 Tire Dealer of the Year Award recipient, Tire Discounters plans to open 60 locations during 2022 "through strategic acquisitions and organic growth," according to company officials.

As part of its expansion, Tire Discounters plans to open 25 stores in the Georgia market this year, with emphasis on the greater Atlanta area.
