Bridgestone Unveils Tire for Electric Bus Applications

The new Bridgestone R192E all-position radial tire has been specifically engineered for use on electric buses, which "will play a crucial role in eliminating city center emissions and traffic congestion," says Chris Ripani, president, commercial truck, Bridgestone Americas Inc.

The tire provides ultra-low rolling resistance and high load capacity, "increasing daily ranges and maximizing vehicle operation on a single charge while remaining compatible with all bus types," according to Bridgestone officials.

Features of the Bridgestone R192E include multiple gripping edges, cross-rib sipes and wide grooves for enhance grip on wet surfaces; a "groove fence" that helps optimize handling and grip, while reducing noise levels; thick tread gauges and an advanced base tread compound; an all-steel casing and belts; 21/32-inch tread depth; reinforced sidewalls; and more.

The tire also has earned 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake certification and can be paired with Bandag retreads.

"Emissions regulations and the global depletion of oil reserves are also contributing to the growth of the electric commercial vehicle market, which is estimated to increase from 185,000 units in 2020 to nearly 680,000 units by 2026.
