2 Kumho Tires Win Design Award

Oct. 5, 2016

Kumho Tire Co. Inc. has received the Good Design Award of Japan for its Eco Sense SE11 and Solus HA31 tires.

Released this year in the Japanese market, the Eco Sense SE11 is an environment-friendly tire made of light but highly robust semi-finished products, according to Kumho. It weighs 7% less than other comparable models, which contributes to higher fuel economy.

Kumho says the four main grooves and center block of the tire are reinforced for greater wet performance and driving stability. The the fuel-efficient compounds help save money and protect the environment, which are the two main qualities Japanese users look for in tires.

The Solus HA31 is currently available on in Canada. Kumho says the all-season tire features a directional pattern that improves driving performance. Its design excellence was also recognized when it received the Korea Good Design Award in 2015 and the International Forum Design of Germany in 2016.

Entries are evaluated for their design, usability and innovative features. The award is given in five categories – product, space, media, system and solution. Kumho received awards in the sub-category of transportation equipment and industrial facility.

“With the winning of the Good Design Award of Japan this year, we now have all of the top four international design awards under our belt, which is yet another recognition of our product design,” says Chung Taek-Gyun, Executive Vice President at Kumho Tire’s R&D headquarter, “We will continue to build on our technological prowess and excellence in quality in order to further improve our products and design capabilities in a bid to enhance our position as a global tire maker.”

This is Kumho’s third year in a row to win the Good Design Award of Japan. The company has won the world’s top four design awards – the Red Dot Award and the International Forum Design of Germany, the International Design Excellence (IDEA) Award of the United States and the Good Design Award of Japan.
